| About Routt County Woolens, LLC |
From the mountain meadows, river valleys and rolling sage country of Northwest Colorado, Routt County Woolens, LLC brings to you the original, natural, $quot;miracle fiber" used in making these premium quality wool products.
Wool is naturally water and soil resistant, will keep you warm and cozy, and an all-natural fiber made by Mother Nature herself. Noted nationwide for its cleanliness and quality, our wool is produced from locally owned sheep nourished by the green grass, fresh mountain air and clear, cold waters of Colorado's high country.
Our American made products are created with high quality standards in an effort to supply you with a true keepsake of the American West. We hope that over the years to come, each use of these resilient, durable products will bring warm memories of their origins.
The Modest Beginnings
The vast amounts of snow that blanket the high country of Northwest Colorado make Steamboat Springs
a world class ski resort and also help produce some of the
nation's cleanest wool. In an effort to increase the return to local producers for their exceptionally
clean wool, the Colorado
State University Cooperative Extension Office in Routt County piloted a finished wool blanket
project. The pilot was successful and as a result a small group of agricultural producers banded together as Routt County Woolens, LLC seeking to stabilize and assure a market for wool
while fending off development and helping to keep local lands in production agriculture. Greg Brown, Nancy Mucklow, Jim Ficke, Susan Shoemaker, Suzanne Hartung and Jim Ross created the group's inaugural blanket, a twill woven blanket of Champagne Powder™ white with a hunter green stripe. Since then, the partners have changed, with Sara Redmond adding a few years of enthusiasm for agriculture and marketing expertise. Currently owned by Greg and Nancy, the company continues to make a series of collectible blankets and wool bedding and has branched out to offer unique wool items for the kitchen, decorator accessories and wool apparel, as well as offering complementary merchandise.
